Safe Environment Program

SAFE ENVIRONMENT VOLUNTEER REQUIREMENTS

There are many opportunities to volunteer at The Church of the Visitation and we want to make it as easy as possible for parishioners to do so. Certain volunteers with access to minors and/or vulnerable adults must complete the following steps:

  1. Register for Safe Environment "Called to Protect for Ministries" training online at www.seattle.setanet.org. This three hour class will teach you how to recognize the signs of abuse, how to respond to suspected abuse and how to keep our ministries, programs and schools safe. Required for clergy, employees and volunteers with ongoing unsupervised contact with minors and vulnerable adults.

  2. Complete and successfully pass a criminal background check. (This will be renewed every three years) You may pick up forms at the Parish Office or from your Ministry Leader. Return all forms to Mary Shelton in the Parish Office. Please note: The form DOES NOT ask for a social security number.

  3. Attached to the background check are two additional forms. All Volunteers must read and agreee to follow the policies and procedures set forth in these following documents:

    • "Policy for the Prevention of and Response to Sexual Abuse, Sexual Misconduct & Sexual Harrassment" (volunteer to keep for their records)
    • "Code of Professional Conduct for Church Personnel" (volunteer to keep for their records)
    • "Safe Environment Program Church Personnel Agreement" (signed & returned with background check)

  4. Attend the Safe Environment "Called to Protect for Ministries" training you signed up for. After completing the class you will receive an email with your certificate. Forward a copy to Mary at mary@visitationchurch.org or deliver to the Parish Office.
Safe Envrionment Yearly Renewal

Each and every year after the initial 3-hour Safe Environment "Call to Protect for Ministries" is complete, volunteers are required to complete the Annual Safe Environment online update. To do so, go online to www.seattle.setanet.org and follow the instructions under "My Obligations" to complete the online training (typically 20-40 minutes.) After completing the online session, you will receive an email with your certificate. Forward a copy to Mary at mary@visitationchurch.org or deliver to the Parish Office.

Instructions for this renewal process can be found here

Thank you for your help making Visitation a safe environment for all!!
